This Blue Plaque is located on the front wall of the White Lion. Reports on the Burning of the Mill suggest that the fire was started using straw from a stable behind the White Lion and coals from a cottage at the bottom of the Factory Nook. The Luddites who attacked the Mill did not live in Westhoughton but walked from Chowbent, Atherton.
These Blue Plaques were installed by Westhoughton Local History Group at significant historical sites in Westhoughton.
This plaque is attached to the side of the farm which is located at the junction of Howarth Street and George Street and is reputed to be one of the oldest in Westhoughton.
