The following series of old photos are from the work of Lois Basnett.

  • Another Sturdy product
  • The oldest factory in Westhoughton, located down Daisy Hill
  • This school,, located on Manchester Road A6 ,was established by the Hulton Family for the education on the children of coal miners.
  • This sketch map dated 1725 is considered to be one of the oldest maps of Westhoughton. It shows the main roads and land ownership.
  • These cottages are located at the bottom of Mill Street and presumably were built at the same time as the Westhoughton Factory on an adjacent site.
  • This local newspaper pre – dates the Horwich and Westhoughton Journal
  • This document is important because it summarises the ownership of land in Westhoughton by the established families.

This presentation about the Hulton family was produced by Anne Hodgson who served on the committee of Westhoughton Local History Group and has recently passed away.
